![]() ![]() Gas masks GP-5 were produced three times more than the population of the Soviet Union. Taking into account the identified shortcomings in the operation of the civilian gas mask GP-5, it was modernized, which was called the modernized civilian gas mask model 5 - GP-5M. It was produced in the period from 1961 to 1989 (although there were FPC GP-5's produced in 1990). It was designed to protect against the ingress of toxic, radioactive substances and bacterial (biological) agents into the respiratory system, eyes and face of a person. The GP-5 is a simple gas mask with protection around the entire head, and a single metal ringed filter for breathing. The mask has become a popular item in popular culture since and referenced widely in video games and films, as it is very cheap because it is the most produced gas mask ever. The GP-5 was historically used by the USSR for NBC protection. The GP-5 kit is widely available on the army surplus market, usually very cheaply ($5 to $25), and are often used as a part of Halloween or fancy dress costumes, including cosplay. You can buy adapters online that makes the GOST thread on the gas mask fit with the NATO filter thread. However the P-5 does have a NATO variant called the FP-5, which is incompatible with this mask. A modern filter that works with all Soviet masks is the Polish P-5 filter. While the asbestos is unlikely to be inhaled unless the filter is damaged, it is recommended to swap this filter for a modern one. Laboratory tests found the filter's particulate layer (cotton) roughly consists of 7.5% white asbestos. This filter is known to contain asbestos. They are a favorite of gas mask collectors because they are common and have the "old" circular eyepieces like masks used in World War II and the "helmet" type masks. It was concluded that the mask will last in an NBC situation for 24 hours. They have been tested in Poland to determine if they have NBC protective capabilities. The GP-5 kit was originally made to protect the wearer from radioactive fallout during the Cold War and were distributed to most fallout shelters. Active RFID is fully automated and highly accurate. Active RFID: $15-$20 USD each – Powered RFID tags that emit a signal every 30 seconds.Required for servers or metal-equipment, especially in a data center Metal passive RFID: $1 USD each – Larger passive tags that work on metal surfaces.Basic passive RFID: 10 cents USD each – Good for paper or other non-metal, liquid material. You should figure five to seven years life for a standard IT active asset tag, to be safe.įor those organizations thinking about making the leap to implement RFID in their environment, here is a brief summary of the options described above, including current pricing and applications. Also, since active tags have batteries, they don’t last forever. You get readers from the same people who sell you the tags. For example, a single reader in the ceiling of a warehouse can detect thousands of assets, and alert the database whenever an asset enters, changes zones or disappears.Īctive RFID is proprietary which means that as of today, you cannot mix tag and reader technology. These radio signals have a range of hundreds of feet, and so can be detected by a single centrally located reader. As their name implies, active tags are internally powered so they can broadcast a low level radio “beacon” carrying the asset description. Your asset tracking software must then receive the RFID reads, record that information, and update the database accordingly.Īctive RFID is the next level up in terms of performance (and cost). A pallet of tagged boxes passing through a portal-mounted reader, for example, records all the boxes simultaneously. In either case, it’s unnecessary to scan each piece of inventory individually. Passive RFID scanners can take the form of handheld units or fixed-position readers set up at entrances and exits. Under ideal conditions, a passive RFID tag can be detected and read from as far as 30 feet between the tag and the scanner, and you don’t need line of sight, so you can detect tags you can’t access easily with a barcode laser. The advantages of a passive RFID tag over a barcode are range and speed. This is an important distinction from active. Passive RFID is a standard, meaning you can mix and match tags with reader hardware. Often, passive RFID tags also sport traditional barcodes so that they can be read with both an RFID reader and – if necessary – a barcode scanner. The reader itself powers the chip, which means the passive chip lasts forever. These passive chips must be near a “reader” to be read. ![]() Passive tags have tiny internal, unpowered chips that are programmed with data, typically the ID of the asset for asset tracking purposes, but they can store additional data as well. RFID tags come in two basic forms: passive and active. The benefits of the codes are still the same, but they support easier scanning with smart device cameras. The most current barcodes are “QR Codes,” which we’ve all seen. They were magic forty years ago, but not today. Technology Overviewīarcodes are straightforward. I responded, “It depends.” But in more fully answering his question, we explored some important basics to be considered before committing to an RFID investment. As prices drop on RFID technology, the benefits become more and more realistic.Ī customer recently asked me how much he should spend on asset tags and should they do barcode, passive or active RFID. Not surprisingly, IT Asset Managers have been asking more and more about the use of RFID to reduce the time and effort tracking assets, especially by implementing RFID technology in as many places as possible. ![]() ![]() ![]() The software is consistent and not confusing, and it’s an enhancement for people already tied into Google ecosystem. It’s better to have a single, flexible piece of software running on your Mac instead of the previous two different sync apps for Google Drive and Google Photos, while also adding this backup feature. Is Backup and Sync neither fish nor fowl in trying to be too many things? Not quite. So you get both: the on-demand version of the PVP, ship battle, and the competitive as well as the on-demand time-box experience. Whereas with Arena, you might not know how this session will play out but you know you’re going to play that 24 minute match and you know you’re guaranteed rewards at the end, because you get rewards for where you’ve placed. You might end up allying with someone and something else happens. You might see a skelly fort and you might end up taking on that. You might have a goal in mind but other things might happen. What we love about Adventure is that you don’t know, you don’t know how long your session is going to be because you don’t know what’s going to happen along the way. So with Arena, not only do you know what type of experience you’re going into. Shelley: We know there are players that love the ship combat who want a more on-demand version of that experience. Shacknews: There can be a division of players with those who just want to dig up treasure and those who want to do nothing but sink another player, even if it means they don’t get the treasure. We’re hoping that Arena can do that for the competitive side of Sea of Thieves. Kind of like how Adventure was a more accessible online multiplayer game – we saw it was a lot of people’s first multiplayer game and in some cases, players who thought they didn’t like multiplayer games found they enjoyed it in Sea of Thieves. It is competitive, but we’re hoping it’s a much more accessible competitive to a much broader audience. It takes the heart of everything that’s special about Sea of Thieves its silly sense of humour and its unique focus on not just one set of skills for a player. Shelley Preston: Just a Pirate Legend who’s won both matches. As part of that we would have shown you cooking, fishing, hunting for the Hunter’s Call, the harpoon, the expanded ship damage, and then we played the Arena. Most rangefinder displays are either LCD, LED or OLED. However, these features aren’t allowed in tournament play, so it’s essential to be able to switch them off. There’s a considerable difference between an uphill or downhill target, so better rangefinders offer the additional benefit of slope and elevation calculations. ![]() Two golf-specific features, in particular, are available in better rangefinders. Golf rangefinder features AccuracyĮven cheap golf laser rangefinders are usually accurate within one yard, but the best ones are accurate within half a yard. ![]() One professional we consulted believed that no golf rangefinder was accurate beyond 300 yards, but that’s sufficient for virtually all golf shots. The headline figure indicates how far the laser will travel, while the pin measurement is how far it can maintain accuracy. Some rangefinders claim 1,000 yards or more but give a much-reduced distance for actual pin measurement. It’s essential to be careful when checking range information. Good optics are expensive, so it’s reasonable to assume that the lens quality is one factor differentiating a cheap golf rangefinder from premium brands. Lens quality is difficult to judge, but coated lenses are generally better than uncoated, though there are many different coating possibilities and not all manufacturers clarify this. Less than that, and you’re probably not getting the focus you need down range. Magnification should be between five times and seven times. The two considerations here are magnification and lens quality. A digital clock inside the rangefinder records the time, which is used to calculate the distance. Once you’ve done that, press a button to project a focused beam of light toward the target, which travels in a straight line, hits the mark and bounces back. To use a rangefinder, you only need to look through the eyepiece and line up the reticle with a target. An eyepiece and screen combination is mounted above the laser projector in the same compact, handheld unit. A laser rangefinder doesn’t need an eyepiece, but to be of practical use to golfers, some viewing or targeting apparatus is required. Some even account for incline and decline to provide an accurate distance. They’re relatively easy to use, and many have advanced technologies that help you locate your target quickly. Golf rangefinders are compact and lightweight, fitting easily in a golf bag pocket. However, the main caveat is that rangefinders provide a distance measurement, giving you a better sense of what kind of shot you need to execute to get your ball as close to your target as possible. They have a lens for zooming into objects far away, primarily pin flags. A golf rangefinder is a tool that resembles binoculars and works similarly. ![]() ![]() ![]() Native 64-bit support for unmatched performance and scalability. Today, more than 20 years later, nearly every manufacturer produces an SUV and every premium carmaker has a luxury version. The segment soon gained momentum and Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and VW joined in with their own takes on the SUV.
